What Fun Things Are Happening in the Bay?

Welcome back to another segment of Fun in the Bay. Here are a few really fun events happening in February!

Some really fun things are happening in the Bay in the coming months, and we hope to see you at all of them!

The first event is the 7th Annual Union Street Has a Crush on You Valentine Wine Walk. This event takes place on Thursday, February 9th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. When you sign up, you’ll be given a map which will show you where all the tasting locations are. Inside those locations, you’ll find some wine to taste and some tasty snacks! On the day of the event, tickets can be purchased with cash only, but if you go to their website beforehand, the cost is only $25.

Next up is the Chinese New Year Festival and Parade which takes place Saturday, February 11th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will be fireworks, parades, and a brand new Miss Chinatown USA!

If you love music, make sure you make it out for Noise Pop!

One of my personal favorites is Noise Pop, which will be going on from February 17th to the 27th. Noise Pop takes place in various locations all over San Francisco with 12 stages, international music, national music, and local music. If you love music, this is the event for you!

Fun in the Bay: Holiday Edition

For those of you wanting to get out and celebrate this holiday season in style, the Bay area is hosting a plethora of Christmas-themed events.

Now that the holiday season is imminent, what’s there to do for fun in the Bay Area to celebrate a little Christmas cheer? I’m glad you asked.

To kick things off, we have Santa’s Mailbox opening on Monday, November 28th at the Danville Community Center. Between the 28th and December 9th, if you stop by and drop off any letters your kiddos wrote to Santa, you will receive a letter in return by December 24th. Just be sure to include your name and mailing address!

If you’re in the mood for something a little more international, St. Mary’s Cathedral is hosting the Swedish Christmas Fair on December 3rd. There, you’ll be able to enjoy some Swedish folk music and costume dancing, shop for Swedish crafts, drink mulled wine, eat Swedish food, and meet Santa himself.

If you’ve never seen a giant gingerbread house, you’ll have your chance in the lobby of the Fairmont San Francisco Hotel all throughout the month of December. This two-story monstrosity is made of thousands of home-baked gingerbread bricks and more than a ton of icing and candy. It’s free, but you may have to wait in line because, honestly, who doesn’t want to see a giant gingerbread house? While you wait, you can enjoy some holiday gingerbread tea.

For some adult holiday fun, the theater circuit is also offering some top-quality live entertainment. At the Orpheum Theater, The Lion King opened on November 2nd and will be shown until December 31st. A.C.T.’s Geary Theater will also show A Christmas Carol from November 25th to December 24th. Last but not least, Irving Berlin’s White Christmas will be shown at the Golden Gate Theatre from December 14th to December 24th.

If none of the above appeals to you and you’re in the mood to just shed some of those heavy clothes and go for a festive half-naked run through the Castro District, the Santa Skivvies Run is happening on December 11, 2016 at 8:30 a.m. After that, there will be a block party on Noe Street to support the San Francisco AIDS Foundation. You can register as an individual or as a team. There will be a bonus for wearing red.

Today, I have some exciting events to share with you. They’re all around Valentine’s Day weekend. If you haven’t yet planned something special with that special someone, now is the time to get started!

• The San Francisco Chronicle will host its annual Wine Competition. The event begins at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, February 13th at the Fort Mason Center. Experience a day jam-packed with laughter, romance, and some of the best wines from all over the country and the world. Particularly, you’ll have the opportunity here to taste hundreds of award-winning wines.

I understand that not everyone can afford high-ticket events. However, I have some solutions to offer. For instance, why not buy your special someone a vintage Valentine’s Day card from the Paxton Gate store in San Francisco? It’s more unique and thoughtful than your average Hallmark card for sure. This store is incredibly eclectic and gives you all sorts of inspiration, from gardening to interior decorating.

• Next, there’s Aphrodite’s Premier Valentine’s Cruise. While you’re on board this executive yacht, you and your Valentine will eat a four-course gourmet dinner, experience the views of the Bay area, and have the option to dance the night away. I’ve done this before and can guarantee it will be a spectacular time. Here, you’ll board the ship at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, February 13th.
• The Hubba Hubba Revue presents the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre at the DNA Lounge. Tickets range from $15 to $30. It’s a night-long event on Friday, February 12th, which begins at 9:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. This wild party is full of burlesque, flappers, and bootleggers for mature audiences only.
• Lastly, there’s Cupid’s Undie Run. The race begins at Pedro’s Cantina at 128 King Street. Doors open at noon on Saturday, February 20th. Before running a mile for charity, you’ll be invited to an exclusive party until 2 p.m. Primarily, you’ll be supporting a cause to support children with a rare genetic disorder.
